History of The Wheeler-Farley House:
Be swept back in time to when ?Timber was King? when you stay at The Wheeler-Farley House?
Purchased in 1929 by our great-grandparents, Joseph Allen and Rachel Wheeler Farley, The Wheeler-Farley House is located on land that was once owned by our great-great grandfather, Nelson Platt Wheeler. His company, Wheeler & Dusenbury, was a major player in the timber industry during the 1800s through the early 1900s. At one time, Wheeler & Dusenbury owned 55,000 acres in this area of Pennsylvania now known as ?The Pennsylvania Wilds?. Just about all of the land was sold or donated and is now incorporated into The Allegheny National Forest. As fate would have it, The Wheeler-Farley House came up for sale in the spring of 2006 after being out of the family since 1978.
We are so excited to have it back and hope that you will enjoy the land our ancestors loved, as we do, when you stay at The Wheeler-Farley House.
While there, look at pictures of days gone by, read about the logging camps of the area and the adventures on The Allegheny River, rafting the logs downstream. Visit an Old Growth Forest at Hearts Content, once a Wheeler & Dusenbury logging camp and now part of The Allegheny National Forest.
Referring to The Wheeler-Farley House, the son of the former owner said, Your ancestors sure knew what they were doing, they picked the prettiest place on The Allegheny River. We whole-heatedly agree with him and now want to share this beautiful land with you.
